He's known amongst well known artist's such as Dave Hollister, Levi Little (both formally of Black Street), Canton Jones, B.B. Jay, & Tamyya J just to name a few.
Cross has shared the stage with likes of Smokie Norful, Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, Coko (formally of SWV), Hezekiah Walker and the list goes on. A few of Cross accolades consist of a 2006 Los Angeles Black Music Award, as well as a 2007 Stellar Award Nomination. The team of Cross and Bobby "BigBo" Foreman (producer), established the thriving independent label known as Habakkuk Records Inc. located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Cross first National release was a 2004 CD entitled "My Thoughts" which contained such recognized singles as "You Can't Hide" & "Who" (both singles blazed radio stations across the country).
1. Born June 24, 1980, Andrâ Cross may have never known how prominent the effect of music would be on his life. After he gave his life to the Lord in 1996, his direction became clear, "Make the Message of Jesus Christ accessible and relative to all who would listen through song. Many things have inspired me to write, says Cross; things that I've experienced in the church, and things that I've seen in my life. I just wanted to give the public a little bit of me, things that have been on my mind to share with them."
Former Deputy Sheriff Andra Cross switched career gears, choosing to devote his life to the gospel world, through the release of his first CD, "My Thoughts," on Habakkuk Records.
My Thoughts, described by Cross as "a gospel album with an R&B perspective," kicks off with his first single, "Jesus I Love You," a staple on the music charts of WXEZ 94.1 FM's gospel station for 24 weeks, is followed up by the song, "Who," featuring BB Jay on the remix.
"I had a goal that I wanted to reach, and I couldn't do it effectively at a 9 to 5 job. Being a gospel artist is actually very rewarding as so many people are changed by what I do. I'm actually using my new career as a way to serve, rehabilitate and heal souls," says Andra (pronounced Andre).
Cross's insightful nature and lyrics as well as his years of experience in law enforcement for South Hampton County, located in Virginia, add to the significance of Andra Cross's CD, My Thoughts.
Cross and his second National release entitled "I'm Open", expected to drop early 2010. The lead single "Let it Go" featuring Tamyya J was leaked to radio in VA (WXEZ 94.1FM) & has already reached number 4 on the station's top 5 count down within a week's time. The video of this single is soon to be nationally released to BET, GMC (Gospel Music Channel), etc. & will be shared on Global Grind.
Cross' music combines 70's vintage soul and edgy R&B/Hip-Hop influences. His style and unique voice has captured the ears of fans along the East Coast. "Andrâ's up-tempo soulful sound and urban beats are contagious. With original lyrics and funky beats, this release is guaranteed to bring you to the next level of gospel music", says Laurice Jackson, CCM Magazine/U Magazine.
Make no mistake; Andrâ Cross is definitely an artist on the cutting edge of urban gospel.Andra Cross music is now on Rageneo's Internet Radio Station Kings Level 3 Radio.
